University of Lynchburg is on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools compiled by G.I. Jobs. The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans and family members as students.
In 2009,University of Lynchburg created a Veterans Award, in conjunction with the Post 9/11 GI Bill, to enable all veterans who meet College admissions requirements to attend tuition-free.
LC alumnus Dr. John D. Bower ’57 created a Veterans Scholarship Fund and challenge grants to establish the Dr. John D. Bower ’57 Veterans Center in the renovated student center, scheduled for opening in fall 2014.
The 1,868 schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools. The common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience. These schools offer scholarships and discounts, veterans’ clubs, full-time staff, military credit and other services to those who served.
Now in its fifth year, the list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools approved for VA tuition funding nationwide.
A full story and detailed list of 2014 Military Friendly Schools ® will be highlighted in the annual G.I. JobsGuide to Military Friendly Schools ®, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
