About 70 area high school students will participate in a Choral Leadership Workshop conducted by Dr. Jong Kim, LC professor of music and director of graduate studies in music, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The workshops provide students with musical tools to prepare them to become leaders in their choirs and include proper breathing techniques, tone placement/resonance, whole-body singing, stylistic awareness, and sight singing.
This year’s participating schools are:
Amherst County High School (Melanie Coleman’06,’08 MA, director)
Franklin County High School (Kathy Carter, director)
George Washington High School (Lee Anne Sheridan ’12 MA, director)
James River High School (Joel Bremner, director)
Lord Botetourt High School (Joel Bremner, director)
Randolph Henry High School (Derrick Thompson ’08, director)
Rustburg High School (Susan Pindexter, director)
Workshop participants also have the opportunity to sing and interact with members of the University of Lynchburg Concert Choir. The workshop will conclude with a concert which participants’ parents and friends are invited to attend. The concert will be held in Sydnor Performance Hall at 5 p.m.
