The sixth annual Gifts for Gulu 5K Run/Walk and Children’s Fun Runs will be March 23 at University of Lynchburg. LC partners with Sports Outreach, Riverside Runners, and the Lynchburg Road Runners for this annual event, which raises money for projects in the Gulu region of Uganda.
All races will start and finish on LC’s Jack M. Toms ’69 Track. The year’s 5K starts at 8 a.m. and will be the first race in the Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female winners as well as the top three male and female winners by age group.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., the one-mile and one-quarter mile Children’s Fun Runs will begin. All children will receive a special gift at the completion of their run.
Proceeds from this year’s races will go toward the construction and furnishing of the Ger House for Trauma Counseling in Gulu. Twenty-five years of civil unrest and war have left deep generational scars of trauma, fear, emotional instability, and a sense of hopelessness.
Registration is $10 and can be found online at www.riversiderunners.com. For more information, visit www.sportsoutreach.net, call 434.582.4707, or email info@sportsoutreach.net.
