The College community collected 2,019 pounds of food for the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging during its recent food drive, “LC Cares: Food Drive for Older Adults in Region 2000.”
The nonperishable food items will be distributed to older adults throughout the Lynchburg area. Much of the food will go to older adults who have requested food for their “Santa to a Senior” Christmas gift.
“A total of 13 student groups and campus offices collected food,” said Denise Scruggs, director of the Beard Center on Aging, which sponsored the food drive. “In addition, a number of individuals donated groceries on their own. I am proud of the school.”
The food drive was held as a competition among departments and student groups. Those with the largest contributions were:
- Health Promotion Club (students): 418 pounds
- Business Office: 199
- Office of Advancement: 195 pounds
- Circle K International Group (students): 171 pounds
- Security Staff: 119
