LC’s Dining Services recently won gold for the Westover Room in the category of “retail sales – single concept” from the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards through the National Association of College & University Food Services.
“We are excited about the Westover Room receiving this honor. After much hard work and investment, our new Boar’s Head deli operation and other recent renovations have been very well received by our students, faculty, and staff. Winning the gold is truly the icing on the cake,” said Shaun Dearden, LC Dining Services manager.
Based upon responses from a focus group with students, faculty, and staff, the Westover Room added a healtheir menu/deli concept featuring Boar’s Head products, in-house fresh baked sub rolls, and salads.
The convenience store in Westover was also expanded to include groceries and prepare-at-home meals. Westover now recycles Styrofoam cups and composts unused vegetables and fruits.
The Westover Room features LCD televisions, Wi-Fi computer stations, and a stage for performances and films.
Since LC won the gold for small schools, it is eligible to win the grand prize for this category competing against the winners of large and medium schools. The winner will be announced at the NACUFS National Conference held in Boston, Mass. July 11-14.
