LC instrumental and choral ensembles will present spring concerts on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, both at 7:30 p.m.
The Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will perform Friday in Sydnor Performance Hall under the direction of Dr. Oeida M. Hatcher, dean of the School of Communication and the Arts.
The program will include “Mt. Everest” by Rossano Galante, “March from 1941” by John Williams, “Yorkshire Ballad” by James Barnes, “Molly on the Shore” by Percy Grainger, and “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky. Kenneth T. Brand, a candidate for the master’s of music in instrumental conducting, will conduct “Yorkshire Ballard.”
The concert is free and open to the public but reserved tickets are required and are available from the Music Department, 434.544.8344.
The Concert Choir will perform in Snidow Chapel Saturday with Dr. Jong H. Kim, professor of music, conducting. Rose M. Peak will accompany the choir.
The program will feature a wide variety of choral compositions including “Rorando Coeli” by Czech composer Campanus Vodnansky; “Mirabilie Myserium” by Taylor Davis; two selections from Requiem, op 252 by Polish composer Zdenêk Lukás; “How Can I Keep from Singing” by Robert Lowry, arranged by Karen P. Thomas; “I Am His Child” by Moses Hogan; and “This Little Light of Mine” arranged by Paul J. Christiansen. Derrick Thompson, a 2008 LC graduate, will be the baritone soloist.
The concert is free and open to the public.
