Some University of Lynchburg students will be sleeping outside in the Dell all week long Nov. 7-12 as part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
Students seek sponsors for each night to raise money for two long-term residential programs in Lynchburg: Miriam’s House, for homeless women and children, and Gateway, for homeless men in recovery.
Savvy Rest, maker of organic mattresses and pillows, has offered prizes for the three students raising the most funds: a shredded latex body pillow and a standard-size shredded latex pillow for the first-place earner, a shredded latex body pillow for the second-place earner, and a standard-size shredded latex pillow for the third-place earner).
For more than a decade LC has observed Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week to educate the LC community about the realities of homelessness and hunger. The goal is to provide means of action for students and staff to help with the issues of hunger and homelessness globally, nationally, and locally.
