University of Lynchburg senior midfielder Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) has been named the Division III Women’s Soccer Player of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors. LC’s Todd Olsen was named Coach of the Year.
Hoath had seven goals and 11 assists for 25 points this season. She was a first team All-America selection in 2009 and a third-team choice in 2008. She earned a spot on the all-state, all-region, and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) first teams this year.
Dr. Olsen led Lynchburg to a 17-3-5 record this season, capping the year with Lynchburg’s first-ever NCAA Division III Final Four appearance. The Hornets tied Washington-St. Louis College 1-1 in double overtime in the national semifinals in San Antonio, Texas but lost the shootout. This is Dr. Olsen’s third-straight All-State Coach of the Year Award.
Two Hornets joined Hoath on the 2009 VaSID All-State first team – junior Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) and senior Katelyn LeRiche(Guilford, CT/Guilford). Kwiatkowski and LeRiche also earned first-team all-conference and all-region honors this fall. LC keeper Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) earned a spot on the all-state second team.
