A group of 18 students is heading to China to participate in the International Schools of China 2010 Choral Festival March 25-26, 2010 in Tianjin, where they will perform, hold master classes, and assist in festival duties.
Dr. Oeida Hatcher, associate professor of music, Dr. Cynthia Ramsey, assistant professor of music, and Johnson Scott, music instructor, will lead the group, which is enrolled in a music course titled, “China: Rhapsody in Red – How Western Classical Music Became Chinese.”
This program will integrate historical information and contemporary trends in Chinese Western Music practices. Before the concert, students will visit the Great Wall, Peking Opera, Confucius Temple, Buddhist Grand Mercy Monastery, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City.
