Two-part sessions on effective caregiving are being offered by LC’s Beard Center on Aging in collaboration with a number of area agencies.
The first session is March 19 and 26 and the second session is June 11 and 18. Both sessions start with an 8:30 a.m. check-in and end at noon at the Adult Care Center of Central Virginia at 621 Court St.
The six-hour training will include strategies for coping with daily care, memory loss and dementia, end-of-life issues, stress management, and community resources. Anyone providing care for an older family member, parent, spouse, or friend will benefit from the training. Certified nursing assistants will be on hand to care for your loved one during the training at no additional cost.
Other participating agencies are the Aging & Caregiving Resource Center, the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging, the Consortium on Aging, and Genworth Foundation.
The two-day workshop is $20 per person. Scholarships are available. For more information, contact Denise Scruggs, director of the Beard Center of Aging, at 434.544.8456 or scruggs.dr@lynchburg.edu.
