It's an exciting week for colleges in the Lynchburg area, as they welcome back both new and old faces to campus for the kick-off of the new semester.

"Welcoming the world back to campus." That's the motto for the University of Lynchburg this semester.

Aaron Basko, Associate Vice President of enrollment at the University of Lynchburg, said they have a lot of new faces joining the hornet family.

"Our class is about 27% larger than it was last year, so we're excited to have an enthusiastic group start with us," said Basko.

"I've been waiting for this day for a long time," said Sue Otts Rowlands, President of Randolph College.

She said they are also welcoming a bigger class of wildcats this year.

"We're up 16% over last year, which is great. We have about 155 first-year students and about 30 transfer students joining us," Rowlands said.

With these increases, both colleges are excepting a semester full of:

"Energy. You can feel it in the halls. You can feel it around campus," said Otts Rowlands.

"There's a lot of energy on campus," Basko said.

Both Randolph College and the University of Lynchburg are working hard to keep that atmosphere by making sure the campus is as safe as possible.

"If anything comes to our attention, we're immediately on it, trying to assess the level of concern we should have," Otts Rowlands said.

"For us, it's all about being part of a great community that looks after each other. We keep an eye on things for each other and we just help and support each other," she also said.
