LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Tens of residents lined up outside of the Diamond Hill Recreation Center on Saturday in hopes of giving a potted tree a permanent home.

The City of Lynchburg gave away trees for free to residents looking to get their hands a little dirty.

The event ended an hour early, as almost 100 trees were distributed within 2 hours.

The trees were funded through a grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry in conjunction with the Virginia Center for Independent Schools.

Professors at the University of Lynchburg and Randolph College inspired this idea to help beautify the Lynchburg area.
