University of Lynchburg has chosen Hayward Guenard, a student development professional who worked at LC for more than a decade earlier in his career, as the new vice president and dean for student development.
Beginning May 15, Guenard will return to campus and work on a transition with John Eccles, who is retiring as vice president and dean at the end of June.
Dr. Kenneth R. Garren, president, announced Guenard’s appointment this week. “Hayward brings a special love to University of Lynchburg,” he said. “Please join me in welcoming and extending best wishes to Hayward and his family.”
From 1991 to 2003, Guenard served LC in posts that included associate dean of students, assistant dean of students, and director of student activities and leadership programs. Since then, he has directed residence life at both Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis and, most recently, Nicholls State University.
Guenard has won numerous awards at LC and at other institutions for designing programs that enhance student life. “Hayward’s first priority is our students. He has always been student centered in his career,” said Eccles. “He engages students in a creative and supportive manner. He challenges them to be the best they can be and he will give 100 percent to our community.
“Hayward has always loved University of Lynchburg,” Eccles continued. “He is a Hornet through and through.”
Guenard received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern Mississippi with a major in radio, television, and film and a minor in marketing. He earned his Master of Education in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Georgia. Today, he is a doctoral candidate in Indiana State University’s Educational Leadership and Foundation program.
Guenard and his wife, Jaime Clougher Guenard ’03, and their son Hamilton are thrilled to return to their beloved LC which they refer to as “very special place.”
