Medical Facilities of America is dedicated to our students’ success and wants to highlight students for their efforts. MFA selected Adam Wojtysiak as the Student of the Month for April.
Name: Adam Wojtysiak
Hometown: Bristow, Virginia
Undergraduate degree and school: BS in Health and Exercise Science from Roanoke College
What the faculty are saying about him?
“When I think of a student who is engaged in class and who in engaged in his own learning, I immediately think of Adam. Adam is focused and attentive in class, and he is always asking thoughtful questions that further our class discussion. Like a great chess player – and like a great future clinician – Adam is continually thinking one step ahead, applying his classroom learning to the clinic. Adam’s intellectual curiosity has served him well this year, as he has continually performed near the top of the class. Perhaps even more importantly, Adam is a great classmate. His smile is ever-present, he helps and encourages his classmates, and he leads with his calming and helpful demeanor. I’m proud that Adam is a part of our Lynchburg College family, and I look forward to following his continued success.”
– Price Blair, PhD, Associate Professor
What sparked your interest in physical therapy?
Unlike most people, I had never been to a PT before I decided I was interested. I knew I wanted to work with athletes, so I decided to shadow in a PT clinic just to see what it was about. I was there for 5 hours my first day, and I remember being shocked by how fast the time passed! I loved being there and I was fascinated by the process; I figured any job where you like what you’re doing and time flies by must be worth pursuing!
What’s the most exciting part of the DPT program?
I love all the opportunities for learning by doing! Whether it’s community visits, working in the clinic, or traveling to St. Lucia, there is no better way to learn than by trying it out, and this program gives us so many opportunities to do so. It really helps me remember why I’m doing this, plus it’s a lot of fun.
What do you hope to do with your degree?
I’m interested in orthopedics and sports PT, specifically runners. At the moment I’m planning on pursuing a residency in either sports or ortho, or maybe even both. However, I am keeping an open mind as we continue to try different types of PT practice.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to read, play video games, and I’m trying to teach myself the ukulele! I also enjoy running and hiking.
What is your favorite quote?
“The Guide is definitive. Reality is frequently inaccurate.” -Douglas Adams in A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
“I never think of the future – it comes soon enough.” – Albert Einstein
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men of talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” – Calvin Coolidge
