DESCRIPTION:Before you picture roughing it—let’s be clear: this trip leans much closer to glamping than survival camping. Expect cozy campsites\, quality group gear\, good food\, and plenty of chances to relax and recharge after each day on the river. Yes\, it’s an adventure—but it’s a comfortable one. \n\n\n\nTrade textbooks for paddles and classrooms for the Florida wilderness this Spring Break! \n\n\n\nThe University of Lynchburg Outdoor Leadership Program is heading south for an 8-day canoeing expedition along the Suwannee River Wilderness in sunny Florida. This immersive\, student-led experience blends adventure\, leadership development\, and time to unwind in one of Florida’s most beautiful natural settings\, with knowledgeable instructors providing guidance and mentorship every step of the way. \n\n\n\nWhat you’ll gain: \n\n\n\n\nEssential Outdoor Skills – Learn paddling techniques and backcountry camping skills with supportive instruction\n\n\n\nSituational Leadership – Practice decision-making and leadership in real\, dynamic environments\n\n\n\nGroup Dynamics – Develop communication\, teamwork\, and conflict-resolution skills\n\n\n\nBackcountry Ethics – Strengthen your understanding of Leave No Trace and environmental stewardship\n\n\n\n\nThe Suwannee River is famous for its stunning natural springs\, and we’ll be stopping along the trail to swim and snorkel in these crystal-clear blue waters—perfect moments to relax and soak in the experience. \n\n\n\nDetails at a Glance: \n\n\n\n\nWhat: 8-Day Canoeing & Camping Expedition\n\n\n\nWhere: Suwannee River Wilderness Trail\, Florida\n\n\n\nWhen: February 28 – March 8 (Spring Break)\n\n\n\nWhy: Build leadership skills\, gain outdoor experience\, and have an unforgettable week\n\n\n\nCost: $500 — includes gear (except snorkel and fins)\, transportation\, food\, and instruction\n\nPlease note: To keep costs lower\, students will be responsible for providing their own snorkel and fins (you may share). We’re happy to assist with recommendations on where and how to purchase affordable options\, but these items are not included in the trip cost.\n\n\n\n\n\nBonus: Eligible participants can earn 2 HPE credits\n\n\n\n\nAll University of Lynchburg students are welcome\, but spots are extremely limited and filling fast.
