Associate Professor of Physician Assistant Medicine

Dr. Jeremy M. Welsh is founding department chair, program director, and associate professor of Physician Assistant Medicine with primary responsibility for outlining the structure and curriculum of the proposed program of study. He is working in conjunction with Dr. Dan Johnson, Physician Assistant medical director, to design an advanced curriculum for future students. He also practices emergency medicine on a part-time basis with Centra Emergency Services.   

Dr. Welsh is a native of Syracuse, N.Y. Prior to entering PA school, he completed his undergraduate degree from Utica College with a major in biology, and worked as a firefighter and EMT for South Onondaga Fire Department. He graduated from the Le Moyne College Physician Assistant program in 2003, earned his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2008, and earned his doctorate degree from A.T. Still University in 2010.  He is a 2012 graduate of Seton Hall Law School with a graduate certificate in health and hospital law. Before joining Lynchburg College, he was the founding director of clinical education at Clarkson University and practiced emergency medicine in Syracuse and Potsdam, New York. 

Dr. Welsh was awarded a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Emergency Medicine, a distinction earned by meeting license, education, and experience requirements and then passing an exam in the specialty. He is one of only 234 certified PAs to earn a CAQ in the program's first year, and only one of 17 in the state of New York.

Dr. Welsh’s passion for physician assistant education focuses on both medical education and the development of well-rounded and engaged individuals that will continue the future of this profession.
