enza steeleAfter 33 seasons at LC, head coach Enza Steele collected her 500th career win Sept. 21 as the 14th-ranked Hornets field hockey team defeated York (Pa.) College 5-2.

The 10-time ODAC Coach of the Year told WSET, "I guess surprised is a great word for it. You know each year … I always say to the girls, ‘Refuse to lose,’ and I think 500 kind of represents that for me."

The weather conditions were not ideal with torrential downpours throughout the game, but the fans in attendance were treated to history as five Hornets scored in the memorable victory.

Lynchburg picked up two goals early as Kelli Williams scored 10 minutes in before Morgan Lammando found the back of the cage two minutes later off a Katie Kline assist.

Lammando pushed the ball past the York goalie, Abby Baker, to Kelsey Link for the game-winner with 28 minutes remaining in the contest.

Grace Ann Edgerton and Megan Tillou collected their first goals of the year as Abby Bunting added her first career assist.

Baker had 12 saves for the Spartans (3-4) as Kiersten Wetzel and Katie Petrillo found the cage for York. Jordan Seeley added seven saves for the Hornets.

York had a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners, while Lynchburg outshot the Spartans 29-17.
