Pathway 2+2

The Pathway 2+2 program is a collaborative initiative between the University of Lynchburg and Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) designed to provide a structured route for students to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Lynchburg in a total of four years. This is achieved by completing a recommended sequence of courses at CVCC to earn an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Business Administration, followed by transferring to the University of Lynchburg to complete a bachelor’s degree in one of five specific majors in approximately two additional years.

Key Details of the Program

  • Participating Majors at the University of Lynchburg: Currently, there are curriculum guides that suggest the specific CVCC courses students should take during their two years at the community college to align with the requirements at the University of Lynchburg. These guides provide suggested course sequences for both the fall and spring semesters at CVCC and the subsequent two years at the University of Lynchburg.

  • Transfer Admission: Students participating in the Pathway 2+2 program must still apply for admission as a transfer student to the University of Lynchburg. While following the recommended course sequence is beneficial, admission is not guaranteed solely based on participation in the Pathway program at CVCC. Students must complete the Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Business Administration at CVCC and earn a grade of “C” or higher in all recommended courses to be eligible for transfer.
  • Guaranteed Admission Agreement: University of Lynchburg has a broader guaranteed admission agreement with all of Virginia’s community colleges for students who earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts & Sciences degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Students who meet these criteria are guaranteed admission and will have met the general education requirements at Lynchburg, with the exception of foreign language and the Senior Symposium. The Pathway 2+2 program aligns with this agreement but provides specific course guidance for particular majors. For the guaranteed admission under the broader agreement with a qualifying associate degree with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, the general education requirements are met, again excluding foreign language and Senior Symposium.
  • Transfer of Credits: The University of Lynchburg accepts for credit those college courses in which grades of “C” and above are earned. An official CVCC transcript is required to verify the completion of the Associate of Arts and Sciences degree.
  • Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students who participate in the Pathway 2+2 program are eligible for University of Lynchburg transfer scholarships and can also participate in the Transfer Student Scholarship Competition.

Important Considerations

  • Students interested in a Pathway program are highly encouraged to speak with an academic advisor at CVCC to ensure they are taking the necessary courses.
  • It is also recommended that you contact the University of Lynchburg’s admissions office (by email at [email protected] or by phone at 434.544.8300) to ensure that all requirements for the specific Pathway are being met.
  • Students should indicate on their application to the University of Lynchburg if they are participating in one of the Pathway programs.
  • Students transferring with between 56 and 76 credit hours (which is typical for this pathway) need to complete 8 credit hours of Writing Enriched courses. Some courses within the Pathway curriculum at the University of Lynchburg are designated as Writing Enriched, and students may need to take additional Writing Enriched courses as part of their minor or electives.
