Student members of the Sociedad Hispánica (Hispanic society) promote Hispanic culture through community involvement and social events. We seek to bring forth an appreciation of Hispanic customs and an awareness of current problems faced by Latin American communities.

Six Spanish students can live in the Casa hispana, a Lynchburg Special Interest house located at 1115 McCausland Street. The Spanish House residents work closely with the Hispanic Society to organize and host events celebrating Spanish language and Hispanic culture.

A Tertulia (semi-organized chat) is hosted each week by a SPAN 221 student.
Tertulia provides beginner, intermediate, and advanced students with the opportunity to practice speaking in an informal setting and to socialize with fellow students in Spanish. All students are welcome!
Fall 2017 meetings will be held on Wednesday’s from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Flynn Multicultural Center, Drysdale 221.
