As an instrumental music teacher in the New York City Public Schools, Kara E. Dean has experience teaching orchestra, beginning strings, and general music to both high school and elementary students. As a private violin teacher, she has maintained studios in North Carolina and New York for the past 10 years. In addition to teaching and learning, she enjoys fiddling, performing in orchestras, and playing her violin in the community.
Dr. Dean has presented papers at the 7th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Education, the Third Biennial Symposium for Research in Music Teaching and Learning Conference (University of North Texas), and the 28th International Society for Music Education World Conference in Bologna, Italy. Her research interests include stringed instrument teaching and learning in private studio settings and public schools, lifespan involvement music making, and music curriculum design and implementation.
