Johnson Scott teaches courses in music theory, aural skills, music technology, and music appreciation. In addition, he teaches applied organ lessons and is conductor of the Lynchburg College Handbell Choir. Dr. Scott completed the doctor of musical arts in 2017 with his dissertation research, “An Investigation of the Status of Technology Availability and Use by Students in PK-12 Music Classrooms in the Northern and Northwestern Regions of the Commonwealth of Virginia” under the advisement of Dr. Stephanie Standerfer.
Dr. Scott earned a master of music from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University in 2007 and a bachelor of science in chemistry from James Madison University in 1987.
He studied piano with the late Mrs. Nancy Lloyd; organ with Dr. Harvey Huiner, Dr. Richard McPherson, Mr. Colin Andrews, and Dr. Steven Cooksey; and conducting with Mr. David Watkins and Dr. Steven Cooksey.
Dr. Scott is music director and organist at Main Street United Methodist Church in Bedford, Virginia.
