Education
Dr. Cheryl Jorgensen-Earp received her BA in communication and dramatic arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her MA and PhD in communication from the University of Washington.
Research Interests
Her research interests include violence as a rhetorical tool, symbolic resistance, public memory, rhetoric of science, and the British women’s suffrage movement. She is the author of numerous articles, book chapters, and four books, most recently Discourse and Defiance Under Nazi Occupation, Guernsey, Channel Islands, 1940 – 1945, published in 2013 by Michigan State University Press. Dr. Jorgensen-Earp believes strongly in undergraduate scholarship and thoroughly enjoys mentoring student research. Over the years, her students have presented their work at many prestigious conferences, among them the National Communication Association Convention, the Southern Communication Association Convention, and the DePauw Undergraduate Honors Conference.
Teaching Areas
In 2001, Dr. Jorgensen-Earp was named Virginia Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. She teaches Persuasion, Communication Law and Ethics, Visual Rhetoric, Advanced Theory/Senior Thesis, and British Communication Study Abroad courses.
