Director of Evaluation, Assessment, and Compliance
Dr. Joyce S. Nicholas serves as the director of evaluation, assessment, and compliance, working collaboratively with faculty and students in the review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the Physician Assistant Medicine program. She is actively involved in the teaching of research methodology and mentoring of research clerkships and graduate research projects.
Dr. Nicholas holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the Medical University of South Carolina, an MS degree in Bioengineering from Clemson University, and an MS degree in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee. Before joining University of Lynchburg she served 15 years at the Medical University of South Carolina as Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Department of Neurosciences, followed by 3 years at Centra Health as Director of Neuroscience Research. She is currently an Adjunct Professor in Clemson University’s Department of Bioengineering as well as epidemiologist for the global medical education nonprofit Madaktari Africa.
Dr. Nicholas has a long history of collaborative work with clinicians and scientists across multiple disciplines. She is experienced in grant writing, publishes in the professional literature, is an active member in national and international professional organizations, and a Fellow in the American College of Epidemiology.
