The Beard Center’s Consortium on Aging is composed of regional health care providers, foundation representatives, government agencies, non-profit and for-profit agencies, and community members.We meet regularly to network and explore ways to effectively promote healthy aging, address issues affecting the aging population, and improve community services for the aging population and their caregivers in Lynchburg and surrounding counties.
Why join?
We need to prepare for the much anticipated “silver tsunami” as the baby boomers in our region turn 65 years and older. Our services, recreational and volunteer opportunities, and programs must change and grow to reflect our baby boomers’ unique needs and expectations.
The Beard Center on Aging’s Consortium is working proactively to help prepare for this influx of older adults into our local community, increasing awareness of the potential aging crisis, identifying community needs, and promoting community-wide initiatives.
As a member of the Consortium, not only will you have the opportunity to make a difference in our community, you will have a chance to network with other professionals in the field — something that is especially important during our current recession.
