The Office of Student Development at Lynchburg College in Virginia is excited to announce the expansion of its service and community involvement programming. We are seeking a Coordinator for the Bonner Program for the 2018-19 academic year. In keeping with the College’s Vision 2020 strategic goal of engagement, the Office of Community Involvement and Bonner Programs will provide all students with opportunities for high-impact co-curricular service experiences. Key to this effort is the expansion of the current Bonner Program from a two-year to a four-year model. The Bonner Program is designed to enhance students’ academic experiences by fostering real-world, community connections through partnerships with nonprofits in the Lynchburg area.
The program primarily supports underrepresented and first-generation students who are committed to community service by helping them develop as leaders and change agents in the local community and beyond. Through an application process, 15 incoming first-year students are selected for the program each year, with approximately 60 Bonner Leaders in total.
The Coordinator of the Bonner Program will provide leadership and day-to-day management the Bonner Program. The position will also involve developing and maintaining relationships with campus and community partners to foster strong connections that help build capacity both for students and area agencies. Will work closely with academic offices on campus to contribute to the vision, mission and implementation of community engagement across the institution. This is part-time position with benefits: 10 month, 30 hours per week and requires evening and weekend hours. A minimum of three years of experience in higher education is required or related field. A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree preferred. Must possess strong presentation and problem-solving skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Required ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and work independently.
