Lynchburg College invites applications for the position of the Dean of the School of Business and Economics. Background and Position
Lynchburg College is a private college founded in 1903 and located on 250 beautiful acres in central Virginia. In July 2018, the institution will change its name to the University of Lynchburg to better match its mission as a comprehensive university with undergraduate and graduate programs. The student body is currently 2,800 students (including 750 graduate students), offering 51 areas of study for undergraduates and 21 graduate programs. The School of Business and Economics (SOBE) offers high-quality professional programs designed to prepare students to excel in a global, rapidly changing, uncertain environment. By integrating theory and practice throughout its educational programs, the School helps students develop effective and ethical management and decision-making skills, including the ability to integrate multi-disciplinary perspectives in pursuit of organizational goals. The School strives for excellence by providing a professional, character-building education built upon a liberal arts foundation. Leadership Excellence Magazine recently named SOBE’s Leadership Development Institute #4 in the nation for degree programs with an emphasis on leadership development, and CEO Magazine named SOBE’s MBA program as a tier one MBA program in North America. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accredits the School’s business programs.
The School offers undergraduate majors in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Management, and Marketing as well as seven minors. In addition, the MBA program includes both online and traditional classroom components. At present there are 250 undergraduate majors, 170 students pursuing minors in the school, and 70 MBA students.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean reports to the Vice-President and Dean of the College and is responsible for maintaining the excellence of both the undergraduate and MBA programs offered by the School. It is essential that the Dean work collaboratively with all segments of the institution in curricular development, attracting and retaining faculty and staff members, and recruitment and retention for the undergraduate and MBA programs. As the public face of the School the Dean should have experience in fostering close relationships with the local, regional, and national business communities, the ability to involve alumni and friends of the College in activities of the School, and to work with other stakeholders of the College and School. The Dean will also take a leadership role in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement in fundraising efforts to support continuing and new initiatives within the School.

The successful applicant will have:
- Earned doctorate or professional degree in business or related field of study from an accredited university
- Achieved significant impact in his/her career, with academic credentials and professional experiences at the associate or full professor level with the School
- Proven ability to develop and successfully implement strategic initiatives
- Experience in generating new revenue streams through external partnerships and fundraising
- Demonstrated ability to manage a complex academic organiation while fostering relationships with all segments of the institution
- Relevant and recent experience with business school accreditation requirements and procedures
- A strong commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusiveness
