Lynchburg College has evolved to become a university throughout its 115 year history. In February 2017, the Board of Trustees voted to adopt the name University of Lynchburg beginning in the fall of 2018. This name accurately reflects who we are, affirms our strategic direction, and positions us for long-term success.
Who We Are
Lynchburg College is a first-choice institution for talented scholars and student-athletes in Virginia and around the world. Our community fosters academic research, creative thinking, and artistic excellence.
With 40 majors, 57 minors, and almost 20 graduate programs, we celebrate a breadth of opportunities that students around the world associate more and more with universities.
Our strategic plan details how we will pursue our primary aspiration: to be nationally recognized as the leader for student engagement in the classroom, athletics, and leadership. We will strengthen the undergraduate program with active learning and improved facilities while growing strategic graduate programs. Claiming our university status makes this commitment clear.
By ensuring that our brand reflects our identity, the University of Lynchburg will attract the student body we need — at the undergraduate and graduate level, domestically and internationally — to thrive in a competitive marketplace. Our research indicates that the new name will draw more interest from prospective students.
