The University of Lynchburg has an opening for the position of Program and Advising Coordinator for Second-Year, Transfer, and Non-Traditional Student Programs. This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 12-month position, with competitive benefits and some nights and weekends. This position will report to the Director of Second-Year, Transfer, and Non-Traditional Student Programs and will work in the office of the Academic Achievement Center.
The responsibilities of this position entails planning of activities, programs, and services that contribute to the success of second-year, transfer, and non-traditional students. These include (but are not limited to): assisting with recruitment efforts, orientation, advising, teaching, and coaching. In addition, the Program and Advising Coordinator for Second-Year, Transfer, and Non-Traditional Student Programs will serve as the academic advisor to 50 first-year students each year and teaching two courses. A suitable candidate must have a master’s degree in an appropriate area (higher education, student personnel, counseling, or other related programs) and the degree needs to be completed by the start date of June 1, 2019. A minimum of one year experience working in an educational setting (preferably higher education) with students in transition and handling multiple priorities. A progressive Graduate Assistantship experience counts as work experience. Strong interpersonal and writing skills, as well as the ability to supervise student leaders are essential. Experience in planning and executing special events and orientation is desirable. Developed analytical skills and ability to use technology software to collect and analyze data and trends. High personal motivation, organization, and follow-up skills necessary as is the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, work effectively as a team member with a collegial and collaborative style. Demonstrated ability to work in a high volume environment. The selected candidate must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.
