The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia is seeking a full-time University data specialist to join our University data, analytics and effectiveness (UDAE) team.
The University data specialist reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the assistant vice president for university analytics and research.
Job type:

Job purpose:
- The purpose of the University data specialist is to assist the University data, analytics and effectiveness team to:
- Compile, maintain, and analyze institutional data in various formats;
- Produce reports and metrics based on department’s needs;
- Respond to time-critical ad-hoc requests; and
- Load, extract, edit, and evaluate data for reporting and analytics.
Specific job duties:
- Preparation and distribution of statistical reports related to student enrollment, performance, retention, and degree completion.
- Analysis of complex statistical data to inform strategic decision-making.
- Coordinates external reporting and compliance according to state and federal requirements, including U.S. News and World Report, College Board, Peterson’s survey, Princeton Review, and grant submissions.
- Assistance with survey research projects, including survey design, administration, and logistics.
- Compilation of data results, and visual presentation of results.
- Proofing and validation of reports, both narrative and statistical, to ensure accuracy in reporting and professionalism.
- Employment of data visualization software to present statistical data in an accessible way to constituents.
- Develops and provides training support as needed.
- Documentation of methods and procedures related to statistical reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:
- The normal work schedule is on campus from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, on occasion longer hours may be required to meet deadlines.
Experience/skills:
- Strong documentations skills and ability to use project management tools to consistently handle multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines
- Attention to detail and commitment to exceptional work quality standards
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals on cross-functional teams
- Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
Physical demands:
- The functions of this position are usually performed sitting and at the computer.
- Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard involve extensive wrist and hand movements.
Required qualifications:
- Proven ability with Microsoft Excel pivot tables, filters, and formulas
- Proven ability in working with software, large data sets, and relational databases
Preferred qualifications:
- 3-5 years experience working in higher education
- Experience with higher education student information systems
- Experience designing, maintaining, and publishing data dashboard tools
- Ability in utilizing query language such as SQL
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, social science, information systems, data analytics, data science, computer science, statistics or related field. (Master’s preferred.)
Work remotely:
- Yes. This is an on-campus position; however, due to the scope of the duties, working remotely is possible assuming a remote work agreement can be reached.
