The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia is seeking a full-time service utility worker to join our dining services team.
The service utility worker reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the service shift leader. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the service shift leader. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job purpose:
- To assist the service utility team in the dish room, servery, dining room, and kitchen.
Specific job duties:
- Fills dish machine and/or pot washing sink and checks for normal operation.
- Places dishes on machine to get best possible washing action.
- Washes all pots and pans either through dishwasher or 3-bay power wash sink.
- Checks dishes, pots, and pans as they come from machine to be sure they are clean.
- Returns clean dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and utensils to proper storage location.
- Cleans dish machine, dish accumulator, and pot sink after each meal.
- After meals, removes all trash, compost, and recycling to respective areas.
- Keeps the salad bar stocked and clean during meal periods.
- After each meal period, removes soup containers, cleans salad bar, and restocks bowls, silverware and crackers for soup station.
- Preps dressing and condiments containers for each meal period. Cleans all pumps and containers on a regular schedule.
- Displays a positive and inviting interpersonal relation with students, faculty, staff and guest.
- Maintains cleanliness of carts, rolling racks, and the organization of the chafers and beverage dispenser’s and the storage area.
- Cleans work areas at the end of each shift, including wiping tables and vacuuming floors.
- Routine monitoring of dish room areas and dining room areas for litter and debris removal.
- Assists in other areas, including service, production, and catering, as required.
- Performs other related duties as may be required.

Schedule:
- AM and PM shifts available, hours may vary (8.5 hours/day some weekends are required to meet needs of department).
Experience/skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions.
- Must have good teamwork skills.
Physical demands:
- Prolonged periods standing.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working in food service operations preferred, but not required.
Education:
- One to four years education at the high school level or equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
