The Office of Equity and Inclusion at the University of Lynchburg is seeking applicants for the position of Diversity and Inclusion Officer. This recently developed office is paramount in the advancement of the University’s Strategic Plan (Vision 2020+), demonstrating a commitment to diversity through a welcoming and respectful environment. This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 12-month position, with competitive benefits.
The Diversity & Inclusion Officer (DIO) will report to both the Provost and the Vice President and Dean for Student Development while working closely with the President, members of the President’s Cabinet (senior leadership), and all members of the University community (faculty, staff, and students) to provide leadership for diversity-related initiatives.
As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the DIO will be responsible for working with relevant stakeholders to develop/implement effective diversity policies/practices including, but not limited to, practices that will result in the increased attraction and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and students. The DIO will also develop and administer campus programming and training opportunities that cultivate a welcoming and inclusive campus community while overseeing the Diversity Strategic Plan. The DIO will monitor the improvements in the campus climate through assessment measures.
The successful candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications: five (5) years of experience with increasing responsibility in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion and a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. The selected candidate must also successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- Prior experience in higher education;
- Past experience developing affirmative action and/or recruitment plans aimed at diversifying the workforce;
- Prior experience in a leadership role;
- Higher education teaching experience.
