The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a full-time Community Engagement Coordinator to join our Center for Community Engagement team.
The Community Engagement Coordinator reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Director of the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) and Bonner Leader Program. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Director of CCE. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Starting Salary: $37,000 Annually
Job Purpose: To assist the Community Engagement team in the oversight, implementation and training of HornetServe tracking platform and ongoing campus-wide service opportunities of the Center for Community Engagement. To advocate and communicate community-based learning opportunities for University students, staff, and faculty, where they will work collaboratively and alongside community partners (i.e. nonprofit organizations, government agencies and philanthropic organizations) on projects designed to improve quality of life and promote social justice awareness.
Specific Job Duties:
- Works with the Director for the Center for Community Engagement to assist with the operation of all aspects of community engagement including recruitment, selection, orientation, training, placement, reflection, enrichment, and reporting, using the HornetServe (Givepulse) platform.
- Coordinate food and clothing drives, campus wide service events, and special activities such as advocacy days, voter registration, crisis relief, Hunger & Homelessness Week, etc.
- Plan and Oversee the First Year Service Experience for Hornet Days (First Year Orientation) in August.
- Coordinate marketing, public relations and promotion of service. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling campus visits of community service agencies, developing presentations, Google forms, editing the CCE website, writing and designing a weekly e-newsletter, and other materials for students and faculty.
- Coordinates group service activities and provides general support to faculty, staff, and students engaged in service and service-learning. Conduct follow-up assessment of service and service-learning experiences from participating students and make recommendations for program enhancement based on results.
- Situated in Student Development’s portfolio focusing on Community Development, collaborate with Housing and Residence Life’s (HRL) Assistant Director for Community Connections and the Community Expectations and Restorative Practices (CERP) area in matching residential students and students who are participating in the University’s disciplinary process with different levels of community service.
- Help coordinate and attend alternative break service trips.
- Provides ongoing mentoring and advising for Center for Community Engagement interns (Logistics Intern, Programming Intern).
- Works with Fraternity and Sorority Life Service Chairs to make sure they are serving our greater Lynchburg community and their philanthropies.
- Working some weekends and nights will be required.
- Performs other related duties as may be required.

Schedule:
- 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (7.5 hours/day with some evenings and weekends to meet needs of the department may be required.)
Experience/Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing, and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions.
- Thorough knowledge of GoogleSuites and Microsoft Office programs, and social media Apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and Social Media Management Apps (Hootsuite or Later).
- Good mathematical and analysis skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse population of students as well as with faculty, staff and parents.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and work independently.
- Must have good teamwork skills.
- Thorough knowledge of GoogleSuites and Microsoft Office programs, and social media Apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and Social Media Management Apps (Hootsuite or Later).
- Must possess strong presentation and problem-solving skills.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, or carrying may be required during community service days.
- Working some weekends and nights will be required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of two years of experience in higher education or a related field is required.
- Valid United States driver’s license and clear driving record.
- Candidate must pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.
