Dr. Frederick Douglass Opie, professor of history and foodways at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, will present the next John M. Turner Lecture in the Humanities at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
The virtual lecture, “Food and Politics Have Been Like Peas in a Pod, 1876 to the Present,” examines the historical relationship between food, drink, and politics, and regional differences across the United States. The lecture will be livestreamed on Google Meet.
Opie is the author of several books, including “Southern Food and Civil Rights: Feeding the Revolution,” “Hog and Hominy: Soul Food from Africa to America,” “Zora Neale Hurston on Florida Food: Recipes, Remedies & Simple Pleasures,” and others. He also has a podcast and food blog.
