Daymond John, a renowned entrepreneur and star of “Shark Tank,” will share his perspective on life and business in a talk at the University of Lynchburg at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 21, in Turner Gymnasium.
His lecture, “The Five SHARK Points: Daymond John’s Fundamental Keys to Success in Life and Business,” is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Ticket information is available at lynchburg.edu/daymondjohn.
John is the speaker for the Gifford Lecture Series, sponsored by the University of Lynchburg College of Business. The series invites business leaders to speak about topics related to business and ethics.
“Daymond John’s success has hinged on hard work and reputation,” Nancy Hubbard, dean of the College of Business. “He will talk about some of the deals he left behind due to ethical considerations. This is a real world application of how businesses and reputation are built and lost on ethical decision making.”
John initially made his mark as the entrepreneur and branding expert behind the lifestyle brand FUBU, which has seen an aggressive expansion and eclipsed more than $6 billion in global sales. An original cast member of the four-time Emmy Award-winning series “Shark Tank,” John’s relentless commitment to promoting and supporting entrepreneurs led to him become a two-time New York Times Bestselling author of books including “Rise and Grind” (2018) and “The Power of Broke” (2016).
In March 2020, John will release his sixth book, “Powershift,” that walks through his tried and true process of transforming any situation, close any deal, and achieve any outcome, with examples drawn from his own experience and vast network of industry leaders.
John’s commitment to promoting and supporting entrepreneurs goes beyond his work with “Shark Tank” and as an author. In 2016, he served as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship and traveled with then-President Obama to Kenya and Cuba to help grow entrepreneurship and small business opportunities.
John continues to serve as the CEO and run the day-to-day business of The Shark Group, his consulting firm comprised of a team of expert communicators, strategic analysts, and creative heavyweights that excel in transforming businesses into iconic brands through brand strategy, product development, influencer marketing, speaking, and digital media.
