Chris Young ’20, a music education major, is spending his junior year in England, where he is singing with the world-renowned Gloucester Cathedral Choir.
This summer, he traveled to Gloucester with the parish choir from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. While there, he auditioned for a one-year position as a choral scholar. It’s a rare opportunity for people from the U.S., but he was invited to join the cathedral’s program.
Founded in the 16th century, the Gloucester Cathedral Choir performs numerous times each week and presents major carol services and participates in BBC broadcasts. Meanwhile, Young is continuing his University of Lynchburg education with online classes and video calls with professors.
Young shared his experience with the News & Advance, which published a story today. Read the story here.
Young’s first BBC broadcast will be aired on October 10 at 10:30 a.m. and will be available online, according to the newspaper.
