High school students and their families are invited to Lynchburg College and 24 other institutions during Virginia Private College Week July 30-Aug. 4. Students who visit three colleges during the week will receive special application fee waivers, a nearly $100 savings.
Lynchburg College, along with the other members of the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV), will host two daily programs for prospective students and their families.
The program offers campus tours and an information session that will include academics, student life, financial aid, and the admissions process. At LC, the programs will be Monday-Friday (July 30- Aug. 3) from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 4, only the 9 a.m. session is available.
By visiting three or more of the participating colleges during the week, students will receive three application fee waivers, which can be redeemed at any of the 25 members of CICV. Students must pick up a passport at the first college they visit, and have it stamped by the end of each visit. Completed passports must be mailed to CICV.
A private college education is more affordable than many families think. Last year, Virginia private colleges gave students more than $200 million in scholarships and grants. In addition, in-state students attending a Virginia private college are eligible to receive a state grant - Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) - for a maximum of four years. The grant will increase to approximately $3,200 in 2008.
Registration for Virginia Private College Week is not required but students are advised to contact the schools they plan to visit. For more information, check http://www.privatecollegeweek.org.
