Sociology Research Projects, 2006-07
- In an attempt to provide information on mental health services, an evaluation of Mental Health needs through the mental health providers in Central Virginia is being conducted. Essentially this project will identify services provided and gaps in those services provided based upon surveys to those currently receiving mental health services in the area.
- In an attempt to address childhood obesity, we currently are conducting an evaluation of the Healthy Starts program in Lynchburg Elementary Schools. This project, in cooperation with Lynchburg Grows, will determine the impact (if any) of a new curriculum introduced through the elementary schools on children’s choices of healthy meals and snacks.
- A program evaluation of South Carolina’s Children’s Nurture Center (in Columbia, S.C.) was conducted during the fall of 2006, and another evaluation on treatment modalities and childhood development is currently being conducted to be completed in May of 2007.
- An evaluation of ChildHelp USA (a national treatment program) is currently being conducted through surveys and interviews to those children/families who have received help from ChildHelp. It is anticipated that this evaluation will be completed in December of 2007.
- An evaluation of the Tier System sponsored by the Office to Monitor and Combat Human Trafficking (under the Department of State) is being conducted. This evaluation, to be completed by June of 2007, will assess the placement of counties in the various tiers based upon country demographics.
