Lynchburg College trustee Peter Viemeister, noted historian and author, has published a new book, A 50-year History of Disinformation: CIA, JFK, TWA, 9-11: a search for truth and what to do. The book revisits events during the past 50 years and explores the question of what can be believed when, as Viemeister puts it, "what is being said is not the way it is."
The author of nine previous books, Viemeister is known for his research on Bedford County’s Beale Treasure. His book, The Beale Treasure - NEW History of a Mystery is said to be the authoritative source on the subject. In addition to histories of Bedford County, he has also written on the Depression, aviation, the Civil War, lightning, and slavery. His books are illustrated with unusual photos and rare drawings.
Viemeister is a retired engineer and vice president of development of Grumman Corporation, the multi-billion-dollar, high technology firm which produced the craft that landed men on the moon. He has lived in Virginia since 1979 and currently owns and operates Hamilton’s book store and gift shop in Bedford. He has served as chairman of the Bedford City/County Museum, the National D-Day Memorial Foundation, and the Bedford Community Health Foundation. He was named Bedford Citizen of the Year in 1992.
