For immediate release – 5/13/2007 - #353 FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Lynchburg College softball team defeated Salisbury University 6-2 Sunday afternoon to advance to the finals of the NCAA Division III Regional, hosted by Methodist University, but dropped a 9-1 decision in five innings to Emory University (GA). The Hornets scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning against Salisbury, one on an RBI double from sophomore Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County), a bases loaded walk from Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/South Regional) and a two-run pinch-hit single from Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown). Hornet Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) provided an RBI single in the fifth and Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) drove in another insurance run in the sixth with a triple. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was 2-4 with a double and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) had two base hits. Kurisha Hoffman was 1-3 with an RBI for Salisbury (38-9). Campbell got Lynchburg on the board quickly in the bottom of the second inning against Emory with a solo home run over the left-centerfield fence. Emory struck back with four runs in the third, all crossing the plate with two outs. The Eagles padded their lead with one run in the fourth and four in the fifth. Emory advances into the NCAA Division III finals next weekend in Salem, VA.
