LC Softball Defeats Marietta 12-1 in NCAA Regional
Will Face CNU Friday at 4 p.m.

Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Senior right-hander Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) allowed just six hits Thursday and the Hornet offense exploded in a 12-1 six-inning upset victory over second-seeded Marietta College (OH) on the first day of play at the NCAA Division III Regionals, hosted by Methodist University.

The Hornets opened the scoring early, plating three runs in the top of the first frame, two on RBI singles from Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) and one on a wild pitch. The Hornets padded the advantage in the second with a sacrifice fly from Perkins and an RBI single from Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County). LC would scored two more in the fourth and put the game away with five in the sixth.

Campbell was 3-3 with a double, Perkins went 3-4 with a double and four RBI as LC pounded out 15 hits. Lead-off hitter Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) was 4-5 with a triple, four runs scored and two RBI and Swank and Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) each had two RBI. Roscher gave up three walks with one strikeout and left 10 runners stranded.

Emily McComb was 2-3 for the Pioneers (32-11) and Nikki Driscoll and Erin Faulkner each doubled. The game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., didn’t get underway until 6 p.m. as extra innings in an earlier contest pushed back the rest of the games.

The Hornets (34-11), seeded seventh in the eight-team regional, face another upset winner, #6 Christopher Newport University on Friday. First-pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
