"Looking for Jamestown Today," a photographic exhibition by Steven Coates, will be on display until June 29 in downtown Lynchburg. Coates, an adjunct art professor at Lynchburg College, will also exhibit works in Richmond in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown. The Lynchburg exhibit is on display Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Calloway, Johnson, Moore & West Architects, 1030 Main Street. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts VMFA exhibit runs through May 28 at the VMFA-Pauley Center Gallery, 200 North Boulevard, Richmond.
The beauty and complexity of the images that Coates captures in these photographs present the viewer with pictures of Virginia that thoughtfully encompass multiple time periods. In the process, they invite audiences to contemplate the cyclical and ever-changing relationship of past to present.
"Looking for Jamestown Today" is part of a series of exhibitions and programs focusing on the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown. It is one of more than 50 exhibitions organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for statewide travel and is supported by Jamestown 2007.
