Hornet Men Win 10th-Straight ODAC T&F Title
Roanoke Takes Women's Crown

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men’s and Roanoke College women’s squads ran away with the team titles Saturday at the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Lynchburg College.

Hornet sophomore Chris Martin (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) was named the Men’s Most Valuable Performer of the Meet and Bridgewater’s Tony Konate took home the men’s Freshman of the Year crown. Lynchburg’s Dr. Jack Toms was named the ODAC Men’s Coach of the Year and Scott Decker (Clfton, VA/Robinson) earned the ODAC Men’s Track & Field Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Washington & Lee’s Elizabeth Webb was voted the women’s Most Valuable Performer of the Meet and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year as well. Robin Yerkes from Roanoke took home the Freshman of the Year Award and the Maroons’ Finn Pincus was named the conference women’s coach of the year. Roanoke’s men’s and women’s track program earned the team sportsmanship award.

Martin won the long jump (22’9.25") and the triple jump (45’3") and took third in the high jump. Junior Travis Wray (Newburg, MD/La Plata) won the 1,500 meters in 3:59.84 and placed third in the 5,000, while Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) won the 400-meter dash (48.60) and was third in the 200.

Andy Rollins (Ooltewah, TN/McCallie) won the pole vault, clearing 16-6 to set the ODAC and school records in the event and automatically qualify for national competition. Brian Wright (Hardy, VA/Franklin County) cleared 6’2" to win the high jump and Chris Florio (Midland, VA/Colonial Forge) used a 168’3" heave to take home the javelin title. Lynchburg’s 4x400-meter relay team of Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Heritage), Robby Jackson, Word and Brandon Edwards finished over eight seconds ahead of the competition and won in 3:19.22. Ryan Holmes (Glen Allen, VA/JR Tucker) scored points for LC in three different events; placing second in the triple jump, third in 110-meter hurdles and fifth in the long jump.

Junior Mary Mohay (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) won the women’s pole vault title (10’11.75") and was fourth in the javelin. Junior Danielle Garofalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) finished third in the high jump and the triple jump and was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Sarah Funderburke (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland) was third in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the 200, Heather Jones (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) was third in the hammer throw and Amanda Diver (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) was third in the 800.
