Caroline Cubbage Named ODAC Softball Player of the Year
Four Other Hornets Honored

SALEM, VA – One day after leading the Lynchburg College softball team to the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title, senior right fielder Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby - pictured below- homering in Sunday's first game)  was named the conference Softball Player of the Year.

Caroline CubbageCubbage was named the ODAC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player Sunday after Lynchburg’s 7-4 win against Bridgewater College in the finals to give the program its first conference title since 1996. For the season, she is hitting .533 with 58 runs and 112 total bases (11 doubles and 15 home runs), to lead the conference. Cubbage has walked a school-record 51 times to post a .694 on-base percentage, and has a slugging mark of 1.067. She is ranked nationally in six different offensive categories (as of April 15); including batting average (third); walks (tied for second) and slugging percentage (fourth).

Three Hornets earned All-ODAC second team honors: third baseman Morgan Austin (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee), centerfielder Brittany Allsop (Milford, CTJohnathan Law) and utility player/designated player Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County). Austin, a senior, is hitting .333 for the year and has six home runs, 34 runs and 30 RBI. Allsop, a sophomore, is second on the team with a .390 batting average, third with 37 runs and fourth with a .424 on-base percentage. Perkins, a junior, is second on the squad with 10 doubles, eight home runs, a .621 slugging percentage and 47 RBI. Junior Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) earned an honorable mention to the All-ODAC team at shortstop, hitting .306 on the season with 29 runs scored.

Lynchburg (33-11) will compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament beginning May 11.
