Hornet Softball Defeats Top-Seeded Bridgewater 7-6
Advances to ODAC Championship Game

Box score

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team rallied for a 7-6 victory Saturday afternoon against top-seeded Bridgewater College at the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.

The Hornets trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the sixth frame, but a two-run single from Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was hit by a pitch to force across the go-ahead run.

Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) was 3-4 for the Hornets and scored twice. Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) lifted a three-run home run in the third inning and walked twice, and Swank also homered. Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) threw five innings of relief for the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs.

Bridgewater falls to 35-5 on the season, two of those losses coming against LC.

The Hornets (32-10) enter the ODAC Championship game Sunday at 1 p.m. against an opponent (Emory & Henry, EMU and Bridgewater are still alive at press time) coming out of the loser’s bracket. The opposition will have to beat Lynchburg twice to claim the conference title, while LC just has to win once.
