Christopher Newport Prevails Over Lynchburg 17-15

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Christopher Newport women’s lacrosse teamed defeated Lynchburg College 17-15 on Saturday in non-conference action.

LC went up 4-0 on the back of two Nichole Locher (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) goals and led 9-7 at the half, but the Captains would fight back in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 10-6. Locher led the Hornet attack with five goals and three assists, while Sarah Rahl (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) tallied three scores. Katie Johnston (Herndon, VA/Herndon) netted one goal and assisted on two others, while Shannon Smith (Marshall, VA/Osborn Park) and Kathryn Ollice (West Chester, PA/West Chester) each put two balls in the back of the net.

Kristen Conques and Kristyn Hankins, who each scored four goals apiece and combined for 11 points, led the Captains (11-4). Natalie Gilbert scored three goals while Katie Doherty added three helpers.

Lynchburg (7-9) won the groundball battle 23-22 while CNU held a decisive 21-13 advantage in draw controls.

Lynchburg’s next game takes place on Wednesday at 4 pm at the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlins in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal match.
