Hornet Baseball Sweeps Roanoke

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Saturday against visiting Roanoke College on Senior Day.

Lynchburg rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the first game to win 5-4. With the score tied at four all in the sixth, Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) singled home Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) and Jonathan Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) threw a perfect seventh inning for the save. Crews had two RBI in the game, and LaBrie scored twice. Nathan Unroe went 3-4 with a triple for Roanoke.

Lynchburg scored 11 times in the first three frames of the nightcap and breezed to a 20-2 victory. Justin Kelly (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) was 4-4 with five RBI, while Matthew Winston (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) also had four hits and drove in three runs. LaBrie was 3-4 with four runs and two RBI, Crews went 3-5 with four runs and three RBI. Steven Wickline (Charlottesville, VA/Charlottesville), Jonathan Sewell (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) and Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) each had two hits.

The Hornets (20-15/12-6) will compete in the six-team, double elimination ODAC Tournament at Lynchburg’s City Stadium this Thursday through Sunday.
