Roanoke Softball Takes One From LC 7-4
Game Two to be Completed Thursday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Roanoke College softball team won the first end of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Monday at Lynchburg College, 7-4 – and led 7-4 after six innings of the second game when it was called for darkness. The game is set to be completed Thursday.

Roanoke jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings in the opener, thanks to three-run home runs from Kasey Austin and Amber Walker. The Hornets rallied to cut the edge to 7-4 with three runs in the fifth, but Maroon Amy Gillis threw two hitless innings to earn the save. Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) hit a solo home run and walked twice, and Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) allowed just one hit in four relief innings.

The Hornets led 4-1 after three innings of the nightcap, but 12 Maroons came to the plate in a six-run fourth inning to give RC a 7-4 lead. Cubbage was 1-1 with three walks for LC, while Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) was 2-4. Roanoke stands at 25-6 and 12-3 in the ODAC.

The Hornets (27-7/12-3) travel across town to face Division I Liberty University Tuesday at 3 p.m.
