Hornet Softball Sweeps Sweet Briar 8-3, 14-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Thursday afternoon over visiting Sweet Briar 8-3 and 14-0 in five innings.

The Hornets led 4-1 in the opener and broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) was 2-4 with two RBI while Larissa Roscher (Centreville, VA/Westfield) worked six innings to post the win. She allowed five hits and three runs while striking out nine Vixens.

The Hornets started the second game quickly, with Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby), Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Loudoun County) and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) all homering in the first frame. Cubbage and Perkins each ended the game with a double, a home run and two RBI. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) went 2-3 with two runs scored and Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) was 2-3 with a home run and five RBI. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) threw four shutout innings for the win, allowing just three hits. Sweet Briar falls to 14-20 and 5-9 in the conference.

Lynchburg (27-6/12-2 ODAC) hosts Roanoke College Saturday at 1 p.m. for another conference doubleheader. The five Hornet seniors will be honored before the game on Senior Day.
