Manns and Miles Shut Out Ferrum 1-0

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior Ali Manns (Weaverville, NC/North Buncombe) and sophomore Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) combined for a three-hit shutout Tuesday as the Lynchburg College softball team defeated Ferrum College 1-0 in non-conference play.

The Hornets scored the game’s only run in the first inning, as junior Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) doubled, and pinch runner Leslie Bailey (Rockville, VA/Homeschool) scored on a two-out single from Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun Co.).

Manns allowed just two hits and two walks in her six innings, striking out five Panthers to earn the win. Miles posted the save with a scoreless seventh inning. Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) was 2-2 for Lynchburg with a double.

Kryestyn Matherly was the tough-luck loser for Ferrum (15-19), throwing a six-inning five-hitter with no walks.

The Hornets (25-6) are slated to host Sweet Briar College Wednesday at 3:30 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference twin bill.
