LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team scored four runs in the sixth and a single run in the eighth to top Hampden-Sydney in a crucial Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up.
The Hornets (18-12, 10-4 ODAC) fell behind early, yielding a single run in the first and three runs in the sixth. However, four straight singles to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning led to four runs in the frame. Mark Carlson (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) drove in two runs and scored once to lead the Hornets. Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) also drove in two and scored once. Crews blasted a solo home-run in the eighth inning to put the Hornets on top for good. Luke Swiney was 1-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the Tigers (18-15, 9-5 ODAC).
Jonathan Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) gave up only four hits and struck out seven to pick up the complete game victory.
The Hornets are scheduled to travel to Chestertown, MD tomorrow to take on Washington College at 3:30 p.m. Lynchburg College plays its next home game on Wednesday, April 18 when the Hornets tangle with Christopher Newport at 3 p.m.
